Mission Leader: You're Unemployed if Not Working for God

THE WORKER IS WORTHY OF HIS FOOD
(We Should Not Be Unemployed For God)

THE WORKER IS WORTHY OF HIS FOOD
BY: BISHOP J.J. HAIRSTON
MATT 10:7-10
We speak – No one in the Kingdom should lack God’s Provision, we should not be an unemployed worker for God.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the phrase the worker is worthy of his food. Some believe that a person that labors in the gospel should not get a salary but only food, water and clothing.

As for me when I here this phrase, it means the Lord God will take care of all of your needs when you are doing His will. However, the main point of this phrase is that why worry about what we shall eat drink or wear…?

Why, a worker is worthy of his food and it is not only for Pastors, Ministers, Bishops and Elders of the Church but for all those who are mission minded and are laboring for the Lord.

The whole premise of what I am saying is in whatever you and I are doing making it our mission to bless someone with the presence of Jesus Christ whom we the Church illuminate daily. For example, your vocation should be your mission field by letting your light shine before men by being the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Additionally, be ready at all times to give an answer for what you believe. We must be ready to serve at all times at any given place to represent our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In verse 7 of Matthew 10 the Lord said, “As you go,” meaning on your trip, your journey, your walk, going your way is a life journey and a walk for the Lord. This is not a stop and go thing like waiting at a stop sign or street light. No, this is a life journey as continuing to be of service to others letting your light shine and by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In 2 Corinthians 5: 17-19 – 17 it say’s this, “therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their trespasses to them; and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

God has breathed on us the power to serve at all times reconciling the world to Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ said, “Freely you have received, freely give,” Matthew 10:8.

What did Jesus give, John: 1:12: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
Jesus Christ gave Power, from the Greek this is - exousia ex-oo-see'-ah power, which means, (in the sense of ability); privilege, i.e. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence:--authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.

We are able to reconcile people back to God because of our superhuman or supernatural power of influence, authority, and jurisdiction over those whom God has for you to reach out too. There are other attributes of course for Exousia power.

Not only that but look at who we are, who we belong to and our position in this world, we are the sons of God and our position is in the heavenly realms seated beside the living Christ, Eph. 2:6.
Therefore, we do not operate from the natural realm or the fleshly realm but from the supernatural realm, the heavenly realm or the spiritual realm under the power and presence of the Holy Ghost. This is why we must entertain and exercise our minds in the spiritual realm or spiritual things called the “phroneo” mind, Romans 8: 6.
Romans 8: 6, “For to be carnally minded, [the mind of the flesh] is death; but to be spiritually minded [the mind of the Spirit] is life and peace.”
By this we operate in the Spirit of Christ as in ambassadors for Christ. In 2 Corinthians it says’s 5: 20, 21 it say’s, “20 now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be you reconciled to God. 21 For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Now that we have established that Matthew 10 is not just for the leaders of the Church but for all those who are mission minded we need to make one thing perfectly clear. Make no mistake about it, if you want a breakthrough in your life be mission minded!

Do not be unemployed with God because if you are you will not be blessed in the Kingdom! In the text Matthew 10 God is providing five things for the Apostles while being mission minded [the great commission Matthew 28: 18-20]. Here are the five things; he is providing for their finances verse 9, purses are money belts, He is providing for their food verse 10 (a script is a leather bag and was usually used to put food in it), He is providing for their clothes (coats or tunics were their long garments), he is providing for their shoes (long walks will wear out your sandals so an extra pair was essential for their journey, you can say it was their form of transportation to get the message out and without it would have been hard to go on). In addition, Jesus provided for their protection by them not taking any staves (used to fight off any thieves or villains of any kind) The Lord God was going to take care of their safety!

In modern terms when we are mission minded, Jesus will take are of our finances He will provide, He will take care of our food, clothing, transportation and security! These are the things all believers get concerned with on a daily bases but if we are mission minded taking care of the Lords work he will provide all of these things. Just like what He said in Matthew 6:33, “but seek you first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
